FOOTLOOSE SET DESCRIPTION
The set of Footloose consists of a series of trucks and two gauzes within a frame of two blue portals. It is designed to be used in such a way that the energy of the show can be maintained in a seamless flow.
The gauzes enable a continued flow of scenes with set changes occurring behind and being revealed with the action. Changes also deliberately appear in view in a choreographed manner to again emphasise the dynamic nature of the piece.
The two large platform trucks have an urban feel to one side and can open to rotate and reveal the rustic mid west style chapel on the opposing side. These trucks can be climbed and used as a bridge, choir gallery etc
The set reflects 1980s colours and design with the gauzes having a more naturalistic rural look. The gauzes can be enhanced with gobos to suggest multiple locations and times of day with the moon light box adding extra dimension.
ACT 1
Sc.1 CITY OF CHICAGO
Two platform trucks together with steps on the offstage SL and SR edges. Platforms and steps rotate and open with the steps placed in front of the platforms for the choir to ascend. The Rev Moore’s pulpit is set centre.
The gym benches are utilised for the pews. As the congregation move forward to gather in groups the mid stage churchyard gauze flies in
Sc.2 CHURCHYARD
Played in front of mid stage gauze whilst gas station is set up behind.
Bleed through to sc.3
Sc.3 BEHIND THE GAS STATION
Urban side of platforms set together with steps SL and SR. Corrugated flat trucks set in front. Front gauze in as boys move forward to reprise Music 2A to set up school hallway behind.
Sc.4 SCHOOL HALLWAY
Mid stage gauze and 3 trucks with locker fronts and doors. Front gauze in and front door on for Outside Moore Home.
The Moore Home is set up behind gauze. Bleed through gauze as adults disperse during “Somebody’s Eyes”
Sc.5 MOORE HOME
The 3 trucks with house side showing dressed with furniture and props.
Front gauze in for women’s song to set up Burger Blast behind.
Sc.6 BURGER BLAST
2 flown signs scene dressed with tables and chairs.
Sc.7 THE GREAT PLAINS OF BOMONT
Front gauze with moon light box behind. The Moore home set up behind
Sc. 8 MOORE HOME
As before. Then front gauze in with action to set up school gym behind
Sc. 9 HIGH SCHOOL GYM
Platform trucks with score board set centre and stars and stripes flags either side. Locker trucks set either side and gym benches running in line in front. Choir to mount benches for simultaneous gym and church moment.

ACT 2
Sc.1 OUTSIDE BAR B Q
Front cloth with Bar- B- Q sign in front. Bleed through gauze to reveal inside. Platforms together with flags and bunting dressing. Trucks SL and SR dressed as bar with tobacco bales used as levels and for seating.
Sc.2 OUTSIDE MOORE HOME
Front gauze and front door truck. Inside of the Moore Home set up behind. Bleed through and reveal of Moore home. Front gauze and front door back in for Ariel running away. Junk Yard set up behind
Sc.3 JUNKYARD
Platform trucks with corrugated flat frocks as dressing. Cast to move trucks during “Mama Says” to leave platforms as railway bridge.

Front gauze with front door truck. For Rev Moore’s sermon full church set can be set up behind and revealed then mid stage gauze in as congregation move forward in order to strike church set. Alternatively the sermon can be in front of mid stage churchyard gauze.
Sc.7 FINALE
Empty stage with school gym built around cast during action. Extra bunting and streamers with maybe a mirror ball for extra effect
